What is studio lighting?
Studio lighting is a setup used in photography that can take your work to a whole new level. It is mainly used for portraits and it can be used for many other things such as food and objects. In some cases the direction, brightness and colour of the light are manipulated in order to create a strong effect. The lighting and umbrella changes the type of mood and it can really change the shadows of the object or person even if the object itself creates no type of motion.
Background: The room has standard lighting that illuminates the room and the backdrop.
Spotlight: The spotlight provides direct light on the picture and it's used for basic lighting and normally focused directly on the subject.
Softboxes: The two white squares is a fabric over a lamp which creates a soft and diffused light over the subject and it's the main light that shines on the picture and you can change the brightness of this which would change the brightness of the picture.
Umbrella: The umbrella reflects a spot light like it could make the background really white or dark and it can be used in portraits.
Reflector: A reflector is a gold circle which can reflect light into dark areas.

This week in photography we had the chance to play around with the lighting equipment and make a studio. We learned how to set up the tripod and change the settings for the person in front to come clear like the shutter speed, aperture and the brightness.
As well as this we had lighting umbrellas and a backdrop to catch the shadow of the person and this is to have a nice background and a good effect of the picture and this makes it eye catching too.
Also we learned how to make the studio bright and dark and we managed to make it perfect and captured lots of great shots.
Also we were able to adjust different elements of the light and changing the effect to dark and light and we were able to make a moody look. As well as this we also had to change the camera settings in order to get the best effects and make it in focus so we are able to see the person clearly and this depends on the lighting setup that we have.

In this experiment we tried to capture the shadow of the person sitting in front of the backdrop. We were capable of getting a dark and white shadow by putting the umbrella lights high and putting them in different directions. As well as this we also had to have a slightly low shutter speed or we will bring to much light into the picture because the umbrella is giving out most of the light out and a low brightness in order to capture the shadow. This experiment did work because you can see in the pictures above that we managed to capture low and high shadows and we change the settings on the camera.
In this experiment we were trying to have a dark and gloomy effect while capturing the shadows on the backdrop. This experiment also worked because you can see the shadows of the people but it's very low so next time I would try to change the settings on the a bit and this will make it better. We had to have low light on the umbrella and have a slightly low brightness and a low shutter speed to capture this shot. Also we made the camera stand on the tripod nicely and we zoomed in and out to try out different effects and positions.
